This month’s Saga has an extra twist in it. The effect itself comes from Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. Two days after the filming of the Underground Jam my father passed away. He was the man who showed me my first magic trick, and was a total chess nerd.

So I named this trick for him. It just so happens that his birthday is this month, so the timing of the release of this Saga Story is perfect . . .

Kingside CastlingWhat’s black and white and lame all over . . . yep a chess board. Or rather a chess “bored.” Yeah, I’m a nerd, and I like rubik’s cubes, and magic, and math, but chess? Really? Nobody’s that nerdy? Well maybe some people are, but they’re nerds! Wait . . . wasn’t that my point!? I have no idea what I’m talking about.

All I know is that I’m stuck on this stupid checker board. I’m supposed to be the boss, but I’m only allowed to move a little bit at a time, one step at a time unless, some lame-o “castle” who has pretty much free reign of the lair, decides that he wants to be near me . . . then fine . . . he lets me move 2 steps.

I thought I was the king . . . then along comes Stone Cold Magic and somehow a card trick – It is an amazing card trick – takes over the world of Kingside Castling and suddenly my little “knights” near the castle are over. I’ll get you Stone Cold Magic. Curse you . . . I’ve now been shifted from checkerboard to Hoyletown . . . [shudder] [shiver] . . .

If you can remember way back when to the days when I released my Stone Cold Magic DVD, you may remember the effect Little People which was also the Free Trick of the month in August 2009. On the DVD, the original artwork shown for this effect was later used in The Saga story, For Sale By Owner (Magicians Only). Originally, however, that image was meant for this effect.

This is also one of the effects that I used to audition for Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. Though I created the effect many moons ago, no saga story was ever written until now. Enjoy the drug-free acid trip that is Little People:

Pickles, Playing Cards, Wrestlers and now bowling. . . when will the hurting stop. Why must people continue to mock me. Am I some kind of bird that they’re trying to kill? That’s our motto. It does not deserve to be mocked, ridiculed or looked down upon. Just because we were born in thumb tips and card cases does not mean that we are weak. We follow in the footsteps of our giant leader, Verne Troyer. We ride our Grasshopper’s with pride. We Live In The Tiny Lifestyle Exultantly. We are the Little People.

Effect

Four Kings are shown and the deck is placed aside.  The four Kings vanish one at a time, and then reappear in a flashy manner.

Preparation

Remove the four Kings from the deck and place the deck aside. Place it in front of you and to the right.  Place it in a somewhat sloppy and not-so-squared manner.  Arrange the Kings with two reds sandwiching two blacks.  I usually follow The Coolest Ace Trick In The World with this effect.

Performance

Hold the packet of Kings face up.  Turn over a double face down onto the two other face up cards.  You’ve apparently turned over a single red Ace.  Next, turn the entire packet over.  You now have, from the top down, red face down, black face down, red face up, black face up.The audience thinks that only one card is face up.  Next, perform the glide to show the second from the bottom card (apparently the bottom card which the audience thinks you turned over a second ago).  (See fig. 1).

Figure 1

This next move is going to visually change the red King into a black King.  Here’s how:  Place the protruding face up King into the lower most crease of the middle finger of the right hand.  At the same time, the right middle finger gently touches the bottom card (face up black card). (See fig. 2).

Figure 2a

Note: figure 2a is the upside down exposed view; figure 2b is the normal view.

Figure 2b

Now quickly, but carefully push the red card flush with the deck, and at the same time, move your right hand back to the right bringing the black King into view.  Apparently the red King quickly becomes the black King.  Be careful not to drop the King with your left hand.

Now remove the black King as follows.  Grasp it from above by the outer edges with the right thumb and middle finger tips (see fig. 3).

Figure 3

Then with the right index finger on the face, snap the card face down by releasing the middle finger grip and pinching the card between the index finger and the thumb.  Then place the card face down on the bottom.  The situation is as follows:  from top to bottom, face down red, face down black, face up red (the vanished red) and face down black.

Now turn the pack face up and spread the bottom two cards to the left holding the back to back double in place with your right middle finger and thumb (see fig. 4).

Figure 4

Now with your right hand, place the double, black side up, on top of the deck as you draw attention to the two remaining cards in your left hand.  You’ll say, “let’s put this one aside for a minute, and we’ll just use these two.”  This ditches the “vanished” red card onto the top of the deck.

Now you have two Kings in your left hand.  Using the tent vanish, vanish one of the Kings: Hold the cards as in figure 5.

Figure 5

As the right hand comes over to apparently grab the card resting on your thumb, the card is simply released and falls flush with the card in your left palm.  Make sure your left thumb holds its position as you move your right hand away with the apparently palmed card.

Close your right hand and reopen it to show that the card (that was never there) has vanished.  Now you have a double (apparently only one card) in your left hand and a single card face up on top of the deck.  Next, transfer the double to the right hand.

Display the card (double) as shown in figure 6.  Then with the left hand, pick up the face up King from the deck and display it in the left hand the same way you are displaying your right hand double.

Figure 6

Now say, “We’re down to two cards.  Let me show you something interesting with the King of Clubs (or whichever King is showing in your right hand). If I place it on the bottom of the deck, it will actually rise to the top.”

As you say this, here’s what you do.  In an act to scoot the deck closer to you, place the double face down on the deck and slide it toward yourself.  Once you’ve moved it a few inches toward yourself, lift the top (single) card off of the deck (don’t show its face to the audience) and slide it under the deck.

Then riffle the back of the deck, and turn over the top card to show that the card apparently rose to the top.  You have now made it appear as if the face up card you were holding in your right hand just went from the bottom to the top of the deck.  This is your sneaky way of ditching the unwanted half of the double.

Now you have two cards left, and you’re going to vanish one of them by using my variation of the tent vanish;  I call it the open flap vanish .  It’s very similar to the original tent vanish, however, it’s done face up.

Now obviously  for a face up vanish, you can’t just let the card fall flush with the card in your hand, so instead of letting the card fall, you’re going to execute a one handed cut, or the Charlier pass.

Basically, you use your left index finger to push the card on your left palm up and over the top of the card in “tent” position (see fig. 7).

Figure 7

Then you let both cards fall flat on your palm.  All of this is done under guise of your right hand apparently grabbing the face up King and palming it.  You again squeeze the right hand shut then open to reveal the vanish.  You’re now left with a face up double in the left hand.

Now grab the double face from above with the right hand middle, ring and pinky fingers at the top, index finger on the back, and thumb on the bottom (see fig. 8).

Figure 8

Show the “last” King to the audience.  Shift the position of the index and pinky fingers to the outside edges of the deck and remove the thumb (see fig. 9).

Figure 9

Now reach forward in front of the deck and slide the double under the deck, and immediately flip it over into the left hand.  You were merely using the “last card” to pick up the deck.  Now hold the deck face down from above in Deep Overhand Grip with the right hand.

Using the left thumb, pivot the bottom card (“last King”) up and over the left edge of the deck and face up onto the deck (see fig. 10).

Figure 10

This displays the face up “last King” on top of the face down deck.  As you’re doing this, you’re recapping with the audience what has happened this far.  Now you are going to vanish the top card by using the Houdini Color Change as follows.  Hold the deck in left hand dealer’s grip.  Now cover the entire deck with your right hand.

As you do, your right finger tips will ever so slightly up jog the top face up King.  You want this to be as undetectable as possible.  Next, draw your right hand down to expose this slightly up jogged King.

As you expose this card, use the base (where the fingers and palm connect) of your right fingers to slide the second card from the top (the one below the face up card) down (see fig. 11).

Figure 11

It will remain concealed under your palm.  You will continue sliding it until it clears the face up card.  Then you will apply pressure slightly downward with your right palm.  This will cause the second card to kind of be palmed.  Then you will simply lower the “palmed” card onto the face up card.

You will then slide it forward as your left index finger squares up the up jogged face up card (see fig. 12).

Figure 12

Then you will remove your right hand to reveal that the last King is gone.  All you’ve done is placed a face down card on top of it. Now you are left with no Kings.  You can either stop here or you can quickly and visually reproduce the Kings in such a way that will even trip up the most skilled card men.

Reproduction

The deck is now stacked as follows two Kings on the bottom, two Kings on the top (the second from the top is face up).  For the first production, slip cut to reveal the face up King.  Place this packet off to the right. Now in your left hand is a small packet of cards with one face down King on top and two on the bottom.  Hold pressure on the top and bottom cards as you toss the pack to the right hand.

This will maintain the top and bottom cards in your left hand while the center of the deck lands in your right hand.  Place the right hand’s packet face up on the table next to the other King. Then simply turn over the two Kings in the left hand.  This is all done in less than a second. It’s very flashy.

Notes

The first King that you produced by means of a slip cut is in an interesting situation.  It’s face up on a face down deck, but this will slip right past your audience. In fact, you’ll even fool yourself if you’re not careful.  This leaves you in a position to do something with a reversed deck without having to reverse the deck because it’s already done for you.  I’ll leave the creating up to you.

Earlier I mentioned that I usually perform this after The Coolest Ace Trick In The World. You can find that effect of mine on Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. It’s also the October 2007 Free Trick of The Month. It’s also available as an instant download for only $3.99 on StoneColdMagic.com.

ExposureDoes art imitate life, or does life imitate art? I say that it’s a mobius loop. This month’s saga is a perfect example of this puzzling paradox. Those of you familiar with my effect Dream Vacation know that the method requires you to use a Mexican Peso to perform the effect. I’ve been doing this effect since the mid 90’s. When I finally published it on Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam, I needed a name for the effect. Ultimately I went with “Dream Vacation” as the name because the full version of the effect involves a bunch of phoney-baloney patter about my travels around the world.

However, at one point I was going to call the effect “Exposure” as a play on words because the effect involves a 35 mm film canister. Also, at the same time my good friend and Stone Cold Maigc artist had created the drawing you see to the right. The drawing was for something else he was working on, but I thought it was perfect . . . a Mexican . . . a Mexican Peso . . . Perfect! Based on this drawing and the original title “Exposure,” I created, in 2003-ish, this month’s episode of The Saga:

Wow.  That was weird man.  I was just sitting here minding my own business and suddenly I see a strange flash before my eyes.  Was that Quasi-Photo, that just flashed by me?  Maybe I drank too much of the water when I was in Mexico.  However, being a Peso, you’d think I’d be used to it by now.  Maybe it’s the beach.  Too much time in the sun can really freak a coin out.  One minute you’re sipping a nice cool soda on the beach enjoying the waves; the next minute some fat guy with a metal detector is taking you home to his wife.  Well . . . how else do you think I ended up in the United States?  I don’t have a green card.  Anyway, I’m not sure what happened to me.  I think I’m delirious.  That’s what happens in the sun. Soy loco para mas Exposure.

Special Offer for This Week

Kingside Castling, an effect I released on Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam is now available! It comes with 52 refill cards, plus the special cards you need along with a 26 page full-color booklet.

It normally sells for $19.95, but for the rest of this week, it’s only $14.95. That’s 25% off!

A signed card vanishes from underneath the spectator’s hand. This is a simple and very entertaining effect. Check out the Demo: Kingside Castling Demo.

Order today. The price goes back to $19.95 on Saturday (9/5/09) night.

Lecture “Tour”

Well ok, it wasn’t technically a tour. It was a one stop lecture in Tyler, Texas. They say that everything is bigger in Texas. Well that’s almost true. While the hospitality and the kindness of the Texan magicians was certainly “bigger,” I found it quite funny that the gas station attendant had never seen a refill cup the size of my Utah refill cup!

The lecture, however was a lot of fun. I got to meet a lot of great people, including one of the very first Ronald McDonalds. How cool is that! The lectures are done for the year. However, I’m planning on a tour in early 2010, so start planting the seeds with your local clubs now!

Team Update

Times are a changing. One of the changes is our current team. Take a minute to peak at the Stone Cold Magic About Us learn more about each of our team members.

Price Cuts

Times are tough in parts of the world, so we Stone Cold Magic-ites have lowered the prices on a few of our products to help you out. Now both Gemstones and Stone Cold Magic are only $19.95 rather than $25.00.

Protecting The Magic

Unless this is your first issue of Stone Cold Magic Magazine, you know that each month I publish a free magic trick. Some of these effects cover some pretty heavy secrets that you don’t want just anybody getting a hold of, so to prevent the Google searchers from finding the secrets, we’ve implemented a password protection system for the free tricks.

The password will only change occasionally. Whatever the password is, you will only need to enter it once on any of the free trick pages. Once you do, it will unlock all of the free tricks. If/when the password changes, you will be alerted by email. Only subscribers of the Magazine will get the email. The first one’s public. It’ll change, though . . .

For now, the password is: littlepeople

Enjoy the rest of this issue!

This one’s a people pleaser for sure. It’s a fun presentation that I originally used to audition for Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam DVD. However, we did not release it on Underground Jam. Instead, I released it on the Stone Cold Magic DVD. I’ve also developed a different method since its release back in March 2007.

Effect:
A spectator is given a demonstration of how to palm cards even for people who super-small hands. A card is chosen, shuffled and lost in the deck. The spectator (yes the spectator) freely (yes freely) cuts the deck anywhere she likes. The magi then uses a tiny little keychain hand to reach in and palm out the card she cuts too (yes the actual card she cuts to, no switches).

The card is shown to be the selection. Then the tiny keychain hand is turned over and shown to have a tiny, tiny, tiny card stuck to the palm of the hand. It just happens to match the spectator’s chosen card.

Method:
The original method from the Stone Cold Magic DVD used a force deck with a few (10 ish) non-force cards on the bottom of the deck. I won’t spend too much time going over the exact presentation. You can watch it below. The footage below is the audition footage for the Sankey project. You’ll notice that I use an antenna attached to the hand. I don’t do that so much these days. I like the convenience of having the hand in my front pocket rather than needing an inner coat breast pocket.

However, in a set piece where I’m not strolling, I would still go with the antenna for the funny visual.

Ok, so watch the video below; then read on . . .

The version shown above used a one-way force deck. The version I’m about to explain actually uses a Svengali deck. The effect looks almost exactly the same as above. However, you get to add two extra convincers. A Svengali deck allows you to show all of the cards to be apparently different, and when the spectator cuts the deck, you can show the card above the cut-to card and the card below the cut-to card to be indifferent cards. You cannot do that with the original method I used to do.

For the unfamiliar, a Svengali deck is a deck that consists of 26 cards that are identical to one another along with 26 indifferent cards. The duplicate cards are cut a little bit shorter than the indifferent cards. This allows you to riffle the cards from the front or back of the deck and show all of the indifferent cards. The duplicate cards will be hidden.

The other little perk of this deck is that if the spectator cuts the deck by grabbing from the front and back as in the photo below; then she will automatically cut at a point where the “force” card is on top of the deck. That’s the basic workings of the effect. Let’s look at a couple of preparation items you need to do.

Cut

Preparation:
As you can see in the performance video, I use the posable gumby-like hands when I perform. However, you can use any kind of hand that is about that size . . . a doll hand, a foam sticker hand (sold at Walmart). If you decide not to order the hand from Stone Cold Magic, check craft stores and doll stores if you can find something that works for you.

Next, take a mini card that matches your force card from you Svengali deck and using a photocopier, reduce it to 25% of it’s normal size, and you’ll end up with a card about the size of your thumbnail. Stick it to the hand using magician’s wax or double stick tape or some bubble gum from the bottom of your shoe. Or if you’re really daring you can use Llama urine. It’s very sticky.

Once the hand is prepared, the next step is to prepare the Svengali deck. Whenever I use a Svengali deck, I prepare it ahead of time by marking the non-force cards. Just a small pencil dot somewhere on the back of the card will suffice. I usually put it right dead in the center of the card. The photo Below shows a very bold mark done with a sharpie. This is, of course, only for clarity. In reality you would use a light pencil dot.

Mark

The mark needs to be subtle, however, in theory you should never see the mark. When cutting pack, occasionally the cards won’t quite cooperate and you end up cutting a non-force card to the top. If those cards are marked, then you can quickly tell if you’ve cut to a “bad spot” or not. If you see the mark, that’s bad. I’ll go over how to handle it when that happens in a moment.

Set up:
Put the prepared hand and prepared Svengali deck in your pocket.

Performance:
Again, refer to the presentational video for delivery timing and patter. I will only be going over the mechanics below.

Forcing the Card:
There are many ways to force using a Svengali. I simply hold the cards in overhand (aka Biddle grip) grip and drop cards from my right hand to my left hand as you would for a Dribble Force, however it’s not a force. Wherever the spectator says “stop,” you stop. If you notice the mark on the top card in your left hand, then that means that the top card is NOT the force card. That’s fine; show her the bottom card of the packet in your right hand. It will be the force card.

If the top card is the force card, have her pick it up and look at it and return it to back on top of the left hand packet. Drop the packet from the right hand back onto the left hand packet. Next cut the pack a few times, being sure to cut from the outer narrow ends, not the sides.

Using the Mini-Hand:
As you talk about palming cards with small hands, you will display the hand from your pocket. Using the paddle move (very casually), show both sides of the hand thus hiding the palmed card. This is not something you have to do. If you like, you can just bring the hand out palm down and not show the palm at all.

Having the Spectator Cut:
Place the cards next to the card box as shown in the photo below. This is an idea from Max Maven’s Prism book which forces the spectator to cut the deck at the ends rather than the sides. Once the cards are cut, as you saw in the demo, lightly place the hand on the chosen card and slowly slide it out.

Deck

The Reveal:
Once you’ve slid the card out, you may show the card above it and below it if you’d like. You can comment that neither of those cards were hers before revealing the one she cut to. You don’t have to, however. Either way, once you’re ready, turn over the card underneath the hand to show that she did indeed cut to her card. Then turn over the hand to show the tiny palmed card. Refer to the performance above for presentational lines, etc.

Bad Cuts:
What do you do if she cuts at the wrong spot. I could write a whole book to answer that question. However, I’ll give you the short answer. It may require you to do a little homework. Are you familiar with equivoque (aka magician’s choice)? If you’re not, learn that first. Once you know that, here’s how you recover from a bad cut:

The moment she cuts the cards and you see the mark thus informing you that it’s a bad cut, ask her to cut each of the two packets in half as well. Then you are left with four packets on the table. At least one of them will have a force card on top. Then it’s a simple matter of using equivoque to have one of the appropriate packets forced. The beauty of this scenario is that not only can you show the card below the chosen card to be indifferent, but you can also show the top card of any packet that does not have the force card on top of it.

You can also show the bottom card of each packet (peak first before turning the packet over to display).

Final Words:
That’s pretty much it gang. Remember, this effect is also available (with a slightly different method and a few extra ideas) on the Stone Cold Magic DVD.  I also have 6 Svengali Decks left. If you order one before they run out of stock, I’ll send you a free posable hand along with the thumbnail-sized mini card.  An antenna like the one used in the demo below can be found at Radio Shack (R). The hands can be purchased in bulk. I’ve not seen them retailed anywhere. However I purchased a few of them, so they are available on my site as well, if you would like. I cannot guarantee the color of the hand that you will get. They come in blue, pink, purple, yellow and flesh.

The Ultimate Visual Experience . . . Reading
By Jeff Stone

Have you ever read a novel then later watched the movie? What happens? One thing that’s happened to me is that the actor portraying the character in the movie does not look anything like I imagined the person when reading the book. Have you ever seen a radio talk show host or disk jockey for the first time after listening to him/her for several weeks/months/years? The same thing happens. Why is this? The answer is simple, we as humans have vivid imaginations. When we read, first of all the details are much deeper than they might be in a movie.

How many of you have read any of the following books, before watching the movie:

  • Da Vinci Code  (Dan Brown)
  • Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling)
  • Contact (Carl Sagon)
  • Timeline (Michael Crichton)

As always, many parts from the book didn’t make it into the movie. Why? Time constraints is, of  course, a big one. However, something that people often don’t think about is that some of the details found in the book are very difficult to translate to film. When writing technical manuals such as a magic book, there are pros and cons to book vs. video.

On the one hand, it’s very valuable to see an effect performed. On the other hand, when you watch it, you often end up duplicating the mannerisms and exact tone, patter, etc. of the performer you are watching. It never quite becomes your own.

Take a look at the two videos below. The first one is my performance of Jacked Up on Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. The second one is someone else performing Jacked Up. Watch mine first. Then watch the second one. Pay close attention to the patter:

Here’s mine

Here’s the other

Don’t get me wrong. It’s flattering to see a post of someone doing my material. However, the unfortunate thing is that he is performing it as me, not himself. Back in the good ol’ days when books were all the rage, you would have to come up with your own presentation, and you would have to work much harder to learn the material. I’m all for learning stuff faster and easier, but sometimes things are better left for the written word.

Rather than try to convince you that DVDs are bad (they’re not), I’m going to try to convince you that books are good (they are). Both media have their place. It has been my experience, and probably yours to, that reading is and should be a visual experience. So those who are visual learners, no worries, reading is visual. Before reading the Root and the Branch, I should mention that I’m indebted to Clay Neves for the super clever title of this article.

Root:

Let’s remember our roots. This month’s root: Reading. I just watched the whole 6 DVD set of Malone Meets Marlo By Bill Malone. They were brilliant, and it was great to see someone else doing Marlo’s work. However, the funny (maybe even ironic) thing is that watching these DVDs got me motivated to go back and re-read all of my Marlo stuff. There are some serious Gems in there gang.

Remember, remember that reading stimulates the brain on so many levels. It’s a visual experience. It gets your imagination going. It sparks creativity. One of the questions I get asked a lot is how do I create magic. One of the main answers I give is that I read . . . A LOT. I read magic books, computer books, religious books and novels. The more reading you do, the more open your mind will become and thus the more receptive you are to ideas.

Branch:
Let’s build our branches. Your challenge for the month is simple. Go buy a magic book. If time are tough, dig through your old magic books (or borrow one from a fellow magi). Either way, get your hands on a magic book that you’ve never read before, or that you haven’t read in at least 3 years. Then READ IT! I’ll shut up now, so you can read.

Now go study the classics, and go discover your true magical self.

Instant Downloads are an Instant Hit!

Now for the first time ever, you can download original performance footage from Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. Even before the public announcement, a few of these downloads have already been ordered.  This video was my debut to the magic community. Many of you who are fans of my work became familiar with it on Sankey’s project. Now, my footage, both performance and explanation, is available for instant download. Each effect is only $3.99, and you can watch a demo of the effect before purchasing.

Included with the purchase of Dream Vacation and Key-oh-nee Buh-lo-nee, you will also get the original audition footage I sent to Jay. You’ll find some extras in the audition performances that did not make it to Underground Jam. Check it out today!

Stone Frixion Fire

Unbelievable. It’s official! Stone Frixion Fire is Stone Cold Magic’s number #1 best selling item of all time! That’s freaky considering it’s only a few weeks old, and some of the products are 2 years old! Thanks to you guys!

Check out what Jay Sankey had to say:

If -as the saying goes- ‘God is in the details’ then Jeff’s e-book, Stone Frixion Fire is one of the more divine little manuscripts I’ve read in a long time. He breaks down everything from presentations to crediting with the fervor of an obsessive 16th-century monk. Best of all, he also shares some extremely MAGICAL effects!
– Jay Sankey

OH, and he ain’t the only one:

My mind is simply racing and after my second read through your book I had a melt down. Total brain stop. I’m having another crack at it now and actually writing my ideas down as I go. Just marvelous mate. Totally marvelous.
– David L.

Well done on this product, I really enjoyed reading it, and found some nice ideas. Amongst other things I really liked the matchbook effect, and the prop production idea – especially with the rubber band . . . So, many thanks – although I now can’t stop thinking about possible ideas!
– James N.

SO many more… but you’ll notice that the theme is that the book has inspired them to come up with their own ideas. That was the whole point of the book, and it appears to be a success. The original planned release price was $24.95, but for the initial launch it was 40% off ($14.95). However, I’ve received feedback from my wise counselors that in today’s economy, even a product that is this well received, $25.00 is a bit steep for e-book. So heeding said counselors, I have permanently discounted the price to $14.95! Those of you who purchased at the full price have already received a refund for the difference.

So Get it now For only $14.95!

New Project!

For those who really want to add a new level of creep factor to your performance, hang in there. I’ve got a darn freaky Tarot project in the works. Trust me folks . . . you WON’T want to miss this one!

Over the past month, I’ve been doing a lot of work on the various sites I run (mostly back-end stuff), but one of the more significant changes that impacts you is that you can now leave a comment to any of the articles without having to create a website account. Just enter your email address and type in a comment! That’s it. Below this column, you’ll find a place to leave a reply. Go ahead and try it out. It’ll be fun. C’mon . . . everyone’s doin’ it…

Correction

Finally, the last thing I should mention is an update on last month’s free trick of the month. Apparently Steve Beam came up with (and published) the idea for last month’s free trick about 10 years before Dick Roy and I did. I’ve corresponded via email with Mr. Beam, and he has very graciously allowed us to continue to keep it here on the Stone Cold Magic Magazine site. Thank you sir!

Peace gang… enjoy the rest of this month’s issue!
