I’ve also noticed the odd geek correlation between magicians . . . Trekies, Cubies, D&D, Puzzles, etc, etc. It must have something to do with the type of personality and brain function.

What you said about creativity is so true. I actually came up with a 2 card transpo from something my friend said (I wrote this already on another magic forum, but I’ll copy and paste it here):

I had only 2 cards with me at the time to practice a color change I thought up the night before, when a friend saw them and asked me to show him a trick. Since I only had 2 cards with me there was nothing I could really do, so I did a gag (asked him to pick one of them, and surprise surprise, I guessed which one it was). But I thought about what he said (doing a trick with only 2 cards), and within 5 minutes this idea was born. Now I already have 4 various methods for this effect, ranging from impromptu to gimmicked.

Just goes to show that inspiration can come anytime and anywhere from everything and everyone.

However, the most impressive part of this article is that there’s actually a Weird Al song I haven’t heard of before! 😀 I’m a huge Weird Al fan, but never heard Rocky Road before.

Just something I’ve been thinking about for a while: is it just me or do magicians tend to have similar non-magic side hobbies also? Just from this article I see 3 Weird Al fans (myself included). Also I remember reading about a magician who said he started his show solving a Rubix Cube (I think that was you, Jeff, in another article, although I’m not sure), and another mentalist I saw live solved a Rubix Cube in his act. I can also solve a Rubix Cube in about a minute (which was, oddly enough, taught to me by the guy I mentioned above, who is also interested in magic; and not just from a spectator’s point of view), and in the other above-mentioned forum a bunch of people also know how to solve the cube.

Awesome! Chips off the old block! I am a big Weird Al fan, saw him in concert a few years ago, was a very good and entertaining show.
