Jefferoni sed: To quote Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, “Where is the love?”

Chet replies: To quote Tommy Smothers: “Where is the love? It’s right over there.”

(And now the site will let me sign in. I blame it on electrical storms and, of course, evil white man magic.)

I remember watching Doug Henning on TV. A lot of fun and added to my wanting to perform magic.

I always loved how colorful and bright his shows were. very positive.

I love their cover songs. As for the topic at hand, you guys are all over it . . . we need more Doug Hennings’s (Henni?) . . . We need people who use magic to share, not to insult people. To quote Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, “Where is the love?”

(Up to a point. That is, with everyone unemployed, who’s gonna hire us?) There comes a point where we have to go beyond being “merely” entertainers and help uplift folks, enough that they’ll never, never give up. Doug Henning used to do that with magic – help folks realize that there IS magic in what we choose. Even the fact that we CAN choose.

He’d say all we needed to do, to achieve our goals, was believe. It was remarkably naive for a grown man, but his actions (his magic, not his real life actions) showed that Belief was just the first step — but, probably, the most important.

It was 39 years ago. Far too many people don’t remember what a difference Doug made, or the dystopian atmosphere we had in America — and how he broke through that.

Our challenge: Can we bring back the magic to our depressed times? There’s a hugely successful career for anyone who can do so.

Which may be dangerous. Better to leave such things to magicians and clowns. We may pick your pocket, but you’ll always get your wallet and your money back at the end of the show.

I had it figured out that their was only 1 instrument used but thought someone was using a machine that uses audio loops. Once I saw the video I’m like, man, I should have recognized it. I saw this video last year.

In regards to message of your post, In the dark days we are living, with the way the economy is, people losing jobs and so on, I see myself as an entertainer that encourages folks and my task is to bring joy in their lives.

When we get our eyes off of how performing makes us feel (though there is some need for this) and work on building up our audience members we will find a whole new reward for our efforts.

It still hasn’t beaten the hilarious video version: “Obama That I Used to Know.”

Good use of this to lead into and demonstrate the value of teamwork. We have the luxury of choosing to work WITH other people, as opposed to “day jobs” where one is forced to work with people. When there’s a choice, one invests more work, talent, and chutzpah.
