This State Farm Commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ak6zEzCC58 is a perfect example.

For those of you who happen to read the comments- I have another thought, using a quarter sticker. Fold up a small piece of paper (in fourths) which will be nearly the size of the quarter sticker. Place sticker on “it”. Produce this folded piece of paper from behind “someones” ear- when he/she unfolds it- there is a message which reads “The real quarter is on vacation” then produce a real quarter form his/her ear saying: “It was a short vacation”. The sticker on a folded piece of paper with a message inside has a lot of potential (in my opinion). Hope you have fun with this..

Warmly

Brad

Regarding the Quarter Behind the ear plot: what I like about Brad’s approach is that it’s an answer to the question that all lay people either ask or think about. I like the context of it for sure.

See if the audience enjoys it and/or reacts positively to it. (Sometimes screams are a positive reaction, no?) Then decide.

Now that I’ve seen Sir Mr Scar’s performance, I’m kinda torn. I’m going to try it both ways and see which works better for different age and gender groups.

I’ve always loved the whole concept of a drawing turning into reality so I think this is a nice idea. Not sure if it’s something I would go out and perform just cause I think the whole quarter/card behind the ear thing is a little too cheesy for me, but nonetheless the ending is great. I may try to think of an alternative beginning to the effect.

Wouldn’t you know it? A simple refresh brought it into the open.

I still wanna blame Google. Or the Boogey Man.

I gotta get to bed. This vampire existence is silly.

@Chet – I’m surprised you can’t see the video clip. It’s just a youtube embed. I can see it on chrome just fine as well. Sorry dude. 🙁

I blame Google and Chrome. Regardless, I really love ScarBradeky’s effect and shall use it when next grandmonkey-sitting. (Friday) It’s always so gratifying when the simple moves create the biggest effects!

And though I am also a greater fan of Jeff McBride’s work – well, maybe not greater, but certainly bulkier – I recommend a good book for learning the double lift or double take (whichever you wish to call it) such as Card College, Royal Road to Card Magic, Expert Card Manipulation, or any book by Brad Wilcox. I mean, he has a book for EVERY topic in the world, so he must have one for card sleights!
