Little People

If you can remember way back when to the days when I released my Stone Cold Magic DVD, you may remember the effect Little People which was also the Free Trick of the month in August 2009. On the DVD, the original artwork shown for this effect was later used in The Saga story, For Sale By Owner (Magicians Only). Originally, however, that image was meant for this effect. This is also one of the effects that I used to audition for Jay Sankey’s Underground Jam. Though I created the effect many moons ago, no saga story was ever written [...]

Camera Trick

Described By Jeff Stone Introduction This is yet another effect that takes advantage of the new Bicycle card boxes. This is an idea that Dan just came up with off the top of his head over pizza one day. The guy is a genius. Effect The pasteboard prestidigitator shows gives the audience a brief lesson in the history of cameras via the use of – you guessed it – playing cards. First a blank card (representing old-school Polaroid film) is shown on both sides and placed in between a red back Joker and a blue back Joker. The three cards [...]

Tasteless

Once upon a time, I had an idea for a trick where you would take someone’s ABC gum and restore it to a piece of un-chewed gum. The trick was very cool, and the method workable, but you had to touch someone else’s gum, which is just tasteless, which happens to be the name I gave this trick. At the time of the creation (2003 ish), I told Jason Montoya the name of the effect without telling him what the effect was. The name inspired the drawing you see to the right. The drawing inspired the following story written back [...]

Houdini, Super Crapped, The Crapper, What Your Crap Holds

Houdini, Super Crapped, The Crapper, What Your Crap Holds Magician Magazine HOUDINI Issue (MRSP: $9.00) The review on this is simple. There is a lot of free magic in this magazine. Everything from beginning stuff to stuff from John Archer, Banachek, Danny Archer, Michael Ammar, Harry Lorayne and more… The magazine looks and feels just like “Street Magic” Magazine, and it should… it’s the same guy producing both, so I’m not sure the distinction. It wasn’t clear. Also, I can’t quite figure out the exact story with this magazine. I could not find anywhere on the magazine a date or [...]

Lectures There is a slight possibility that I’ll be doing a mini lecture tour in July. I’m still working out the details. If you think your club might be interested, check out my lecture site. Stone Frixion Fire Keep your eyes peeled for this one. My latest E-Book will be released in June 2009. This is one you won’t want to miss. The short version: a ton of killer ideas and routines with Frixion Pens! Stay tuned for more. Spectral 2.0 With the help of Diamond Jim and a few others, my effect Spectral Chill from my Stone Cold Magic [...]

The Standard By Diamond Jim

Described by Jeff Stone This is one of those groovy things we call a presentation piece. This one is all about the patter and presentation. You do that right, and you’ve got a gem of a trick! The effect is based on the new box design for Bicycle playing cards. The short version is this: a three climax effect of a spectator choosing the only red card in a blue deck. And the bicycle card box has a prediction pre-printed on it from the factory. Setup: You’re going to need to take a trip to Walmart and pick up the [...]

Donny Orbit, Mona Lisa, Spiritualism, The Plot Thickens

Inside the Head of Donny Orbit (MSRP: $20.00) Reviewed By Jeff Stone I reviewed Donny’s book many many moons ago. I did in the early days of my blog when I thought that I’d be keeping reviews on there. However, now that I’ve decided to keep all of my reviews in the Magazine, I figured I go ahead re publish this review for those who missed it the first go-round. Below is a highlight of some of the effects along with some of my thoughts on them. First are the effects copied exactly as found in the e-book: SUPERMAN – [...]

The Smallest Card Through Window, Third Eye, Party Time With Magic Dave, Grillz

TSCTW: The Smallest Card Trough Window. MSRP: $24.95 TMAMD: The Most Annoying Magic DVD. The Effect: A corner of a selected (free choice) playing card visually penetrates the glass on your watch so that it’s inside the watch. It is the actual corner and the corner can be signed, etc. So why is it The World’s Most Annoying Magic DVD? First, there’s a typo in the title of the DVD. Note, “TROUGH” is a noun, pronounced “Trawf.” It is a thing used to feed farm animals. “THROUGH,” however, is a verb. It is an action.  So I’m not sure what [...]

Sealed FateS

Preface By Jeff Stone Many of you, like me, spend way too many hours on The Magic Cafe. However, often the time is well spent. Were it not for time spent on the cafe, I would never have come across Iain Dunford’s post regarding a pdf from a friend of his, Kate Cuttler aka “The Queen of Clubs.” The PDF is called Sealed FateS, and Kate has given Stone Cold Magic permission to publish it here as September’s Free Trick of The Month. Let me warn you right up front. When you read this effect, you may be tempted to [...]

Blind Luck & Pure Skill, Spontaneous Combustion, Rehab, Coin Magic 2000

Dan Paulus’s Blind Luck & Pure Skill – GEM! Jay Sankey’s Spontaneous Combustion – GEM! Cameron Francis’s Rehab – GEM! Dean Dill’s Coin Magic 2000 – GEM! Blind Luck & Pure Skill (MSRP: $20.00) By Dan Paulus Too bad his first name isn’t Paul… How cool would it be to have a name like Paul Paulus?! Dan happens to be a friend of mine, but that won’t stop me from giving an honest review. Hopefully you guys have seen that by now. While this DVD is a definite GEM, there are some considerations that we’ll need to address. We’ll get [...]

Bloggin’ it True to my commitment to myself, I’m moving closer toward my goal of making a larger percentage of my income from magic. I’ve been spending way too many hours not sleeping. On the rare occasion that I do sleep, I’m dreaming about Max Maven, Erdnase, Playing Cards, and so many other weird things. Every spare moment I have is dedicated to creating magic, teaching magic, performing magic, and thinking about magic. Hopefully this will increase the amount of  stuff I’ll feel like writing about in my blog. I’ve been a bit of slacker… For those who don’t know, [...]
