Carl Cloutier and I are among a handful of magicians from the North who have descended upon Stevens Magic emporium to shoot a two-volume video set called The Magic of Canada. I’ll give you three guesses as to what the last “C” stands for in ACAANC. I’ll give you a hint; it rhymes with “rap.” Any Card At Any Number. To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, What’s the deal with that plot? Spectator number 1 names any card. Spectator 2 names any number. If you can remember way back when to the days when I released my Stone Cold Magic DVD, you may remember the effect Little People which was also the Free Trick of the month in August 2009. On the DVD, the original artwork shown for this effect was later used in The Saga story, For Sale By Owner (Magicians Only). Originally, however, that image was meant for this effect. Another entry from my upcoming book . . . Here’s a fun little ploy I’ve used to add a little comedy and misdirection to my close up performances. When I need to stack a handful of cards for an effect, I’ll use this. If I’m just stacking 2 or 3 cards, then I may not use this. However when setting up 5 or more cards, this is a lot of fun. I have a good friend who is an amazing mechanic. At least 4 or 5 thousand times a day, someone will discover that he’s a mechanic and ask him a question about a car problem that they’re experiencing. He always has a good answer and some good direction and advice for the curious car owner. Of course, the beauty is that in most cases, this results in my friend taking on a new customer.
