Tragedy Strikes One of Our Own Many of you may know Steve Brooks the founder of the Magic Cafe. Recently Steve’s home burned down and he lost his 6 year old son, Lucas in the fire. This is a tragedy I can’t even begin to fathom. This painful loss is more than anyone should have to go through. I found out about this on the most recent issue of Reel Magic Magazine. Kozmo, a friend of Steve’s, pleaded for our support. He said to take the money you would have spent to renew your subscription to his magazine and donate [...]
Goodbye Gems and Rubble – Sort of Over the years I’ve written several hundred reviews. Many of them are posted here on the e-zine site, and many are posted at My Lovely Assistant. Many of the reviews I’ve written are still unpublished. I typically release them a few at a time each month. It’s gotten to the point where I have so many products to review and so many people sending me stuff to review that I’ve decided to dedicate an entire site to reviews alone. So for the past 2 weeks, I’ve lived and breathed web code. The result [...]
Help Me Win a Contest Before January 20, 2012 What a headline . . . but it’s true. I entered my effect Quarter Bird into the MagicSeen magazine Master Class Contest. If you liked that effect then vote for me. Of course, to keep things fair, here are my competitors, so if you like their effects better, then vote for them: From Magicseen Magazine Issue 42: All the entries for the Masterclass Award 2011 have now been published and we need you, dear Readers, to help us to decide which of the contributions is worthy of receiving the framed Masterclass [...]
A Message From The King Darn it all . . . another year flown by. Hopefully all of your holiday wishes came true and you spent time with family. And even though the Holidays are pretty much over, I thought I’d share this message from The King: The New Year Hold on to your hats for the 2012 Issues. I think you’ll be quite surprised at who will be contributing to this humble rag in the upcoming year. Stay tuned. Are You Really Writing a Book? Yes folks . . . I really am working on another book. It’s just [...]
The Magic gods Smiled That Day I hope everyone had a weight-gaining, new-belt-hole-punching Thanksgiving! I know I did. It was baby Oliveah’s first Thanksgiving. We hung out with some friends for the big day. Of course, I got asked to perform some magic. So I busted out 10 ESP cards that I keep in my wallet. I performed an effect where the spectator handles the cards for the most part. However, the cards must remain in a particular cyclical stack for the effect to work. As I was about to perform the effect, one of the guests (friend of our [...]
Beware of Stone Cold Magic Magazine You may notice that the site is haunted again . . . beware of Black Cats, Bats, Ghosts and much more. Mental Book So . . . slow cometh the mentalism book. I’ve made a little progress and have received some excellent feedback from my team, but we’ve still got a long way to go. I’m hoping to finish before Christmas! Humongous Project I’m sure this will annoy many of you, but I’m puttin’ it out anyway. Next year, I will be undertaking a massive project. So massive that it may actually replace Stone [...]
Larry Hass Reviews Stone Frixion Fire At this point, you’re probably aware (since I announced it in a separate email) that Larry Hass, Ph.D. gave a glowing review of my Frixion book. You can view that review by clicking on the video icon. In honor of his glowing review I’m offering a 33% discount on the e-book that expires this Wednesday (9/14/11). Check it out here: Stone Frixion Fire Brain Dump Currently the working title on my latest book project is Brain Dump. It’s a fitting title certainly and was suggested to me by my friend and fellow magi when [...]
Poo Flood As ya’ll (yes; I said “ya’ll”) may remember, last year (May 2010), West Valley City was working on the pipes in front of our home, and they accidentally nicked a sewer line that caused over 500 gallons of raw sewage to flood our basement. Other than pumping out the basement, sanitizing the contaminated area and gutting our carpet and sheet rock West Valley has done nothing. Further, they don’t care. We’ve been living with a destroyed basement for over a year now, and the Mayor and city planner simply don’t care. Here’s a link to a news story [...]
New E-Book From Jeff Stone Thank you (both of you) for all of the inquiries about when my next project will be out. I still can’t answer that question, but I can tell you that it will be another e-book. Those seem to strike a nerve with a majority of my loyal subscribers. Additionally, I can tell you this. It’s already in the works and I’m hoping to release it with a month or 2 (but you never know). Additionally, I’ve received permission to publish my modification of a Larry Becker effect (Ace Revisited) as well as my handling on [...]
Early Well folks . . . I was so freakin’ late with the April 2011 issue, that I figured I’d make up for it by publishing the May 2011 issue early. So here it is with still a third of the month left to go. New Stuff I just had a great conversation with Jay Sankey where I was bouncing some ideas off of him. It lead to some clarity of focus on my part regarding some upcoming projects I’m working on. I’ve got a couple of e-books in the works along with a couple of DVDs and a top [...]
Ironic Baby Well . . . April was a long month and a lot of exciting things happened, and most of them were very magical . . . First as you, likely, know, our daughter Oliveah was born on April 11. We later discovered that her name means “peace.” However, her middle name, Gail (named after grandma), means “Spirited One.” Thus her name basically means “Peaceful Spirited One.” Her nick-name is Irony . . . It’s also, Livey, Liv, Olive, Liveah, and Little O. You can see how cute she is on facebook. Dead Thieves I’ve got my Google account [...]
Stone Frixion Fire is Unstopable The Tarot Book broke some serious records in just one week. But it still hasn’t been able to surpass the ubiquitous Stone Frixion Fire. It’s still the all time number one best seller. Check out what Dr. Lawrence Hass the Associate Dean of the McBride Magic & Mystery School had to say about it: Jeff Stone’s Stone Frixion Fire is currently the definitive source for learning how to create magic with the new Frixion pen. It offers a careful analysis of previous tricks with the pen, essential tips for using it deceptively, and over twelve [...]
Record Tarot Sales Well folks . . . we did it. In just one short week, Spectral Chill/Tarot Below Zero out sold every single product (except for the Stone Frixion Fire E-book) in the history of Stone Cold Magic! Thank you all so much for your interest in the book. You made it a huge success. For the few of you who don’t yet have it, get it here: Tarot Below Zero. Just for fun I thought I’d remind you all of the kooky saga story from February 2009 . . . Spectral Chill. Interview with Eugene Burger So . [...]
