Tragedy Strikes One of Our Own Many of you may know Steve Brooks the founder of the Magic Cafe. Recently Steve’s home burned down and he lost his 6 year old son, Lucas in the fire. This is a tragedy I can’t even begin to fathom. This painful loss is more than anyone should have to go through. I found out about this on the most recent issue of Reel Magic Magazine. Monthly Prizes, Return of Scarnecky and The Loss of a Friend

Condolences to the Tom Loveridge Family I’m truly saddened to announce the death of a friend and fellow magi, Tom Loveridge. Tom, a member of the IBM Ring #193 here in Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on Monday (2/6/12) on the day after his 58th birthday. He died during a routine surgery. He was just one of those downright nice guys and will be sorely missed by many. We offer our sincerest condolences to those left behind. You can read his obituary in the Salt Lake Tribune. The Magic gods Smiled That Day I hope everyone had a weight-gaining, new-belt-hole-punching Thanksgiving! I know I did. It was baby Oliveah’s first Thanksgiving. Poo Flood As ya’ll (yes; I said “ya’ll”) may remember, last year (May 2010), West Valley City was working on the pipes in front of our home, and they accidentally nicked a sewer line that caused over 500 gallons of raw sewage to flood our basement. Other than pumping out the basement, sanitizing the contaminated area and gutting our carpet and sheet rock West Valley has done nothing. Further, they don’t care. Ironic Baby Well . . . April was a long month and a lot of exciting things happened, and most of them were very magical . . . First as you, likely, know, our daughter Oliveah was born on April 11. We later discovered that her name means “peace.” However, her middle name, Gail (named after grandma), means “Spirited One.” Thus her name basically means “Peaceful Spirited One.” Her nick-name is Irony . . .
